Database On-Demand Group/User Options

The Database On-Demand Group Options window and the Database On-Demand User Options window allow you to set administrator's default values for some of the parameters required for database access. Then, when the user of the Database On-Demand client creates a new SQL statement or a new File Upload statement, Database On-Demand automatically sets the parameters to the administrator's default values that you specify. You can also allow users to override the administrator's default values and to set their own default values (see Configuration levels for default parameter values in Database On-Demand ).

To open the Database On-Demand Group Options window or the Database On-Demand User Options window, first open the Host On-Demand Administration Utility. Then:

  1. In the left pane, click Users/Groups.
  2. Right-click the group id or the user id for the group or user profile that you want to configure.
  3. Click Database > Options.

Before you create user profiles, you should first create a group profile for each group of similar users, and then create the users for each group. This method makes it much simpler for you later to modify settings for a group of users, because you can change the group settings (one change) rather than change the settings for each user in the group (many changes).

Tip Initially users inherit their settings from the group to which they belong, but subsequently you can set a user's options to be different from those of the group.

This is a complicated issue, and your design decisions can have lasting effects on your ability to manage your user profiles. See How group settings affect user settings.

To avoid such complications, when you create an HTML file in the Deployment Wizard, select the HTML-based client model (if it meets your needs) rather than the configuration server-based client model or the combined client model (see Configuration Model).

Listed below are five groups of parameters for which you can set data parameter values. For each group of parameters, click the appropriate link to learn more.
