Host On-Demand troubleshooting checklist

Use the following checklist to identify and find solutions for problems that are occurring with Host On-Demand.

  1. Are your service updates at the latest level?
  2. Have you researched your question or problem?
  3. Are you receiving an error message?
  4. Does the problem occur while installing or using one of the following?
    1. the Host on-Demand server
    2. the configuration servlet
    3. the Deployment Wizard
  5. During installation, did Host On-Demand inform you that the GSKit install had failed?
  6. Does the problem occur while configuring one of the following?
    1. HTML files with the Deployment Wizard
    2. the Redirector
    3. TLS or SSH
    4. the AS/400 proxy
    5. Host On-Demand users and sessions
    6. dynamically modified session properties (HTML overrides)

  7. Does the problem occur while using one of the following?
    1. the Directory Utility
    2. the Web Start client
    3. FTP/Secure FTP (sftp)
    4. Database On-Demand?
    5. Host File Transfer?
    6. a Macintosh operating system
    7. Web Express Logon
    8. a Host On-Demand API
    9. Host On-Demand's Accessiblity options
    10. Auto IME or On-The-Spot Conversion
  8. Does the problem occur while downloading clients?
  9. Is the problem associated with 3270, 5250, or VT emulation?
  10. Is the problem associated with importing printer sessions from Personal Communications ?
  11. Does the problem occur when starting or running the Service Manager?
  12. Does the problem occur while printing?
  13. Have you consulted the resources that are available to help you determine your problem?
  14. Have you obtained the necessary traces to determine your problem?


  1. Are your service updates at the latest level?

    You may be experiencing a problem for which there is an available fix. Refer to Service updates for more information.

  2. Have you researched your question or problem?

    IBM provides numerous resources to help you find answers to questions and solutions to problems. Refer to Research your question or problem for more information.

  3. Are you receiving an error message?

    1. Does the message appear on the bottom of the emulator window? See the OIA (Operator Information Area) help.
    2. Does a pop-up message appear? See the error message help.
    3. Does a message from the Host On-Demand Service Manager appear? See the Service Manager help.
    4. Does a Java event occur? See the Java Console or Java log for messages about Java events.
  4. Does the problem occur while installing or using one of the following?

    1. the Host On-Demand server
      1. zOS (zSeries) operating systems:
        1. Review the Program Directory provided with the media for the z/OS operating system on zSeries systems. The latest version can be found in the Host On-Demand Information Center located on the Host On-Demand Support Web site, http://www.ibm.com/software/webservers/hostondemand/support.html.
        2. Use this checklist when using z/OS or s390 operating systems.
      2. i5/OS and OS/400 (iSeries) operating systems:

  5. During installation, did Host On-Demand inform you that the GSKit install had failed?

  6. Does the problem occur while configuring one of the following?

    1. HTML files with the Deployment Wizard
